If you don't like horror, then don't read this book (or review it and give it a low rating). This book is for hardcore horror fans and serious splatter aficionados. If you love horror then you will love this innovative and highly creative short horror story. It is shocking, graphic, tightly woven genre fiction and surprisingly, at certain points, heartful. The tale tell the personal stories of four unique evil Souls, Ben, Dangerman, Scarlett and Karma, who are doomed to spend eternity in a fate worse than death (because of the sins committed formerly, when they were alive). The book is bloody good and seriously disgusting, in every sense of the word and both terribly visceral, think bone-shattering, blood red carnage, and describes in some detail a few, largely if not entirely selfish, sick twisted humans with dark desires and emotional compulsions. To my surprise, I found myself feeling compassion for at least one horrific character. I love that the author explored issues of eternal damnation, consciousness, cause and effect or karma in a horror story. The eternal nature of repeatedly reincarnation in a terrible situation in hell, until the point of death, is skillfully conveyed. What makes the stories even more interesting is the possibility that redemption may be available. Will one soul get out? Are humans doomed to repeated the error of their ways whether living or dead? This short fiction costs less than the price of a cup of coffee and the author is one of the most creative and innovative horror or other genre writers whom I have read. Ever. The read is energizing and creatively stimulating (if you are an author, whatever your genre, reading both of her current works--if you can stomach graphic horror--can only rev up your own creativity). I am excited to watch Francesco Carrillo's writing career--I hope she writes a ton more books--her work will translate well to the film industry. Minor grammatical/editing issues with the work in no way negatively affected the pleasure of the read. If you really like 'Choices' then you will LOVE Carillo's horror novelette Unavoidable Collisions. Carrillo is certainly a #writertowatch.Product details
